You Are The Captain

Do you believe that you are in control of your health? It seems that we go along day-to-day hoping that we don’t get any number of diseases. Just hoping that something won’t happen. What if you knew that there are things that you can do, starting today, starting right now, that you can do to help your body steer toward feeling better? Would you do it? Would you take control of your own wellbeing in an effort to at least raise the odds of your body being well? And lowering the odds of something happening?

The other day my husband and I stopped at a gas station/mini mart. The parking lot was full…I’m not talking about the gas pumps…the parking spaces to go into the store were full. It hit me that there are so many people stopping at places just like this everyday to get coffee, fountain drinks, snacks, cigarettes, candy, etc. I know for a fact there is one such location in a small town grossing over 4 million dollars a year. This is what we are putting into our bodies in a huge way! We grab a quick snack of delicious chocolate flavored processed sugar rolled together with some chemicals and wash it down with a sugary processed drink. Think for a minute about how this is providing our bodies with anything they need to function properly. Have you thought about if, in fact, these types of foods might not only be NOT providing nutrition but might also be detrimental to your body staying well?

If you can just adjust your thinking about what is going in, on, and around your body then you are taking the first step to helping it feel better. If you can just make conscious choices, small changes, each day about what you eat, then you will be beginning to give your body what it needs to actually get stronger in fighting sicknesses vs. making it weaker and more susceptible to the them.

Unfortunately, so many of the things we now eat contain chemicals that our bodies just can’t deal with. Take a minute to think about all the ingredients in some of the foods you’ve eaten today. We have been told for so long that all of these things are ok to eat that we accept that they are. We have come to believe that eating that way is not only ok but also actually cheaper than eating real food or using natural tools to support our wellbeing.

Let’s think about that. Think about how what you’ve been eating has been working for you. Has it been working for you? Do you feel good? Do you have energy? Do you sleep well? Have you been spending time in the doctor’s office? How much? How much is that costing you?

Here’s why I ask. I ask because it’s important to me that you know that there are things you can do to be the captain of your ship. To steer your vessel in the direction of feeling good. Feel less pain. Spend less money on things that are not helping your body in any way to be well.

I ask because four years ago I felt terrible. There were so many ways I felt bad that I didn’t even realize it until I felt better which took a little time. Every time I thought I felt as good as I was going to feel, a couple of weeks would go by and I would feel even better. I’m not going to lie, it didn’t happen over night, but we didn’t get our bodies where they are today, feeling crappy, overnight. It’s been a learning and growing experience, and it has taken commitment. I am committed to myself. It’s important to me that I feel good and that I do everything I can to give my body the opportunity to be well. To hedge the bet against sickness. To not only hope that my body will remain well, but to give myself a solid foundation for that hope.

Make Good ChoicesRemember in the movie Freaky Friday when Jamie Lee Curtis drops Lindsay Lohan off at school and yells to her “Make good choices”? Well that’s my challenge to you…to make good choices. Make conscious choices of what you eat. Think about it. Would it really be so hard to choose an apple over a ding-dong? It’s just making small changes, and then making them more frequently. Pretty soon they will be easy choices.

How long has it been since you’ve felt good? Can you remember when that was? So, what if you just tried this for a few weeks? What’s the worst that could happen? If you don’t feel better you can always go back to eating the way you always have. But what if you do feel good? Ahhh…wouldn’t that be great? Give it a try and let me know what happens.
