Brush Every Day – Dry Brush

Maybe you’ve heard about dry brushing.  Maybe you’ve wondered what it is and why you should add it to your daily routine.  (And maybe your haven’t.)  Either way, there are many benefits to dry brushing.

Our skin is our largest organ and does a lot of work.  It protects us from infection, helps to detox our bodies, and has nerve cells that communicate with our brains.  Dry brushing helps our skin effectively do all these jobs by:

  • Exfoliates the skin – dry, dead skin is removeDry Brush Everydayd, clearing pores and
  • Stimulates Lymphatic System – this helps to rid your body of waste and toxins.  This also supports healthy digestion by assisting your body in shedding toxins and excess water.
  • Improves Circulation – this also helps get rid of metabolic waste
  • Stress – can be calming and help relieve muscle tension

Make sure you have a good quality brush – you can get the one I use here.  (I tried using a less expensive brush but it really didn’t work so I’ve stuck with that one.)  Start at the bottom of your feet and work your way to your head.  You should use firm strokes in the direction of your heart.  Move your brush in counter-clock-wise (left to right) circles over your abdomen to help improve digestion.  Dry brushing also helps reduce cellulite so you can give extra attention to those areas if you like.  Make sure you are brushing while your skin is dry before you shower.  The shower will help to eliminate the dry skin.  I’ve read that it’s beneficial to dry brush twice a day but so far I’ve only worked it into my morning routine.  I can say that I’ve been doing this for about three years and I have noticed an improvement in my skin.

Think about giving dry brushing a try – your skin will thank you!
