I Can Eat My Sunscreen!

It’s true.  And although I realize this is the last weekend of summer, I want to share this with you.  Maybe you will still have a few nice days to spend in the sun, or maybe you are lucky enough to live somewhere sunny and warm year round, or plan to go somewhere tropical for vacation.

Sometime in the spring I read that Coconut Oil could be used as sunscreen. What?!  I mean for the last few years we have been using it to cook with and have heard all the great health benefits that go along with that, but using it as sunscreen?  I looked around the internet and saw some recipes, but also saw that you could use it straight up.  Of course I had some questions…Wouldn’t it just wash off in the pool?  Would I actually get sunburn?  From what I read it offers an SPF of about 7, so I thought I’d give it a try.  What did I have to lose…it’s natural without chemicals.

Well, it didn’t wash off and I didn’t burn.  The result was a great tan.  I’ve useLd it all summer and I’m in the sun almost everyday.  It worked so well in fact, that last week in the dentist’s waiting room, a sweet older lady commented on what a great tan I have and how my skin didn’t look dry at all.  She said she was going to give it a try it.  Not bad for my not so young, Scandinavian skin!
